What Can I Do To Make a Difference?
Virtually or in person, how can we help others in times like this???
I’m trying to figure out how to make myself useful — from my comfy chair. I’d love to go out and physically led a hand, but I won’t. I’m at high risk for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and I’m not taking any unnecessary chances. Plus I don’t want to risk harming others — you know, caring about others as much as I care about myself. Remember that?
I’m seeing a lot of things that need to be done that one needs to be in-person to accomplish. Here are some ideas (in the Pittsburgh region and beyond) for those of you who are healthy and willing to be out and about:
❤ Volunteer at the Food Bank or clean out your pantry and donate food.
❤ Join 412 Food Rescue and rescue and deliver food.
❤ Contact local school districts and ask what you can do for their breakfast and lunch programs. Most districts are trying to provide meals for kids who may not have regular meals without the school providing for them.
❤ Contact an elderly or at-risk neighbor or family member and offer to deliver food or go to their pharmacy.
❤ Donate to organizations affected by closures, cancellations, and quarantines — especially small businesses and nonprofits.
❤ Plan a virtual get-together via your webcam or even over the phone. Find some feel-good stuff to talk about with friends and family.
❤ Just be nice to people. We are all in this together. We are all scared.
What can I do from home? I’m willing to make calls, answer emails, post on social media pages, and whatever else needs to be done virtually. I just need some guidance on where to start.
